The City of Bloomington is improving the appearance and function of the downtown. The centerpeace of the downtown is the impressive courthouse, now a museum. A high quality streetscape improvement will be made around the courthouse.
We propose that the City include a large sculpture and fountain honoring Abraham Lincoln and U.S. Grant on a corner of the court house.
“Lincoln and Grant deserve the nation’s credit for saving the United States, eradicating slavery, and striving to provide equality for the freedman. One could not have succeeded without the other."
Both men spent time in Illinois and Bloomington.
The Lincoln Grant Statue should be surrounded by an attractive fountain. The statue should include blooming flowers in season. It could be powered by solar panels.
The statute could be placed on any of the four corners of the courthouse.
